ISF / “10+2”
The Importer Security Filing and Additional Carrier Requirements (commonly referred to as 10+2) set forth in the Maritime Security Act became effective on January 26, 2009. The ruling was created to increase security measures and help prevent terrorist weapons from being transported to the United States. Importers and carriers are required to submit additional information pertaining to cargo to US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) before the cargo is brought into the United States by vessel. The details must be submitted at least 72 hours prior to vessel loading. The regulations call for a penalty of $5,000.00 per shipment for late or inaccurate information. Gridiron can have the ISF information submitted to CBP for our customers, but we must receive the required details no later then 96 hours prior to vessel loading.
